This attack in one of the most well known techniques in all of Dragonball Z. It is also the one of the most powerful. From the tiny ball of energy Goku formed on King Kai's planet, to the gargantuan ball of energy that killed Kid Buu, the Spirit Bomb comes in two forms. The Genki Dama is the standard version, with the Chou Genki Dama being the massive version. The attack utilises the latent ki in all living things. Plants, animals, the very rock of a planet itself and the inhabitants of of the world. All of these things are called upon to give ki to the Spirit Bomb in times of great danger.
1. *Genki Dama “Spirit Bomb”-An attack where the user stands with his arms in the air and gathers the energy of all the living things on that planet. The energy is formed into a ball and is thrown.

2. *Chou Genki Dama “Ultra Spirit Bomb”-The most powerful Technique in all of Dragonball/Z/GT. Much like the above technique, the user puts both hands into the air to gather the energy of all living things. This more powerful version, however, reaches out to the surrounding planets.

The following Special Rules apply to the Genki Dama and Chou Genki Dama attacks. When there is mention of the "Spirit Bomb" this special rule applies to both the Genki Dama and the Chou Genki Dama, unless otherwise stated.
1) You must spend 1 Offensive Action (OA) to start this tech and 3 OAs to charge it. These can be spread over multiple posts, but they must be used in succession. Effectively you can do nothing but defend while using this technique. You must remain focused on gathering and maintaining this start-up energy.
2) You must pay the required Ki Point (KP) and Stamina Costs (SC) when you spend the first OA to charge the technique. While you may split the OAs to seperate posts, the costs of the Spirit Bomb must be paid on the first, or initial OA. This amount, paid in the first OA is referred to as the ORIGINAL KP.
3) When you gather energy you can spend as much or as little of your own KP to start the Spirit Bomb (in your first OA). Then, in the three OAs used to charge it, multiply that KP amount by the Life Point (LP) value of the location on the planet you are at. This is now the total KP of the Spirit Bomb.
- EXAMPLE - Let's say that Goku is using a Spirit Bomb on Old Vegeta. Goku's PL is 5,000,000. In his first OA he put's ALL of his KP into the Spirit Bomb, that's 50,000,000 KP. This is the ORIGINAL KP. In the first "charge", taking three OAs, he grabs energy equal to the LP of his location (Lightning Mountains - 4) multiplied by his initial KP investment (50,000,000). So, the three OAs used to charge the Spirit Bomb give him 200,000,000KP to add to the 50,000,000 he already gave it. That means after the four OAs the Spirit Bomb has a KP of 250,000,000
4) You may use another 3 OAs, and by doing so you may gather ANOTHER (original) KP x LP from your location, as well as an amount of KP equal to the LP of all the other locations on the planet x the original KP.
- EXAMPLE - Goku uses another 3 OAs to charge, and so he can add ANOTHER 200,000,000 KP plus an amount of KP equal to all the locations LP values x his original KP. If they are all a value of 4, for example, and there are five other locations, he can add another 50,000,000 x 4 x 5 = 1,000,000,000. So the TOTAL KP for the Spirit Bomb after 7 OAs = 1,250,000,000
5) For every three OAs used to charge from now on you may only gather KP equal to the original KP x the Averge LP.
- EXAMPLE - Now, the next time Goku gathers energy he may only gather his Initial KP x the average of ALL the locations on the planet. So each charge (3 OAs) will gain 50,000,000 x 4 = 200,000,000 KP. So, after 10 OAs TOTAL KP = 1,450,000,000
6) The Genki Dama continues this last step for every three more OAs used to charge. The Chou Genka Dama continues as such: After spending another 10 OAs (9 to charge and 1 to begin) you may collect KP equal to your original KP x the average LP of each surrounding planet (not diagonal, wrap around for edge planets such as Earth or Zun).
- EXAMPLE - Now, Goku has charged for long enough he may reach to other planets, the four closest planets without going diagonally, wrapping around if need be (to represent other planets that may be close to the planet you are on). So Goku, on Old Vegeta, may take KP equal to AVERAGE LP x Initial KP from 5 planets - Earth, New Namek, Kanassa, Old Namek and Old Vegeta.
Old Vegeta Average LP = 4
Earth Average LP = 7
New Namek Average LP = 5
Old Namek Average LP = 4
Kanassa Average LP = 4
4+4+4+5+7=24
24 x 50,000,000 = 1,200,000,000
- So, after 13 OAs Goku's Spirit Bomb has a TOTAL KP of 2,650,000,000 (Keep in mind that 13 OAs is a LONG time to try to survive, especially when he just gave ALL his KP to the Spirit Bomb. You'd have to be a moron to not have killed Goku by now.).
7) For every 6 OA's you spend after this, the area expands out by a planet in all directions. (That is, after you have spent 15 OAs you may reach out two planets in all directions, after 21 you may reach out 3 planets, etc.) The area cannot expand to reach from a planet more than once in each 3 OA charge.
- EXAMPLE - Goku has continued to charge, expanding the KP gathering area by another planet now, which means he can now count the diagonal ones, and so now he can gather from Arlia, Zun and Freeza Planet #79, with LP averages of 3 each, so that's another 450,000,000 PLUS the 1,200,000,000 he can gather once more from the other close planets (Earth, Kanassa, Old Namek, New Namek and Old Vegeta) which means that the TOTAL KP of the Spirit Bomb is 4,300,000,000 after 16 OAs.
8) OAs used to charge the Spirit Bomb must be original, rolled for Offensive Actions, and cannot be those granted by the use of Multi Arms, Shi Shin no Ken, or any other OA raising technique.
9) In order to block the Spirit Bomb, you must meet any requirements regarding Block Levels. The Genki Dama is BL-3, while the Chou Genki Dama is BL-3 but has special restrictions. The Chou Genki Dama (CGD) cannot be blocked by any technique other than Superior Ki Block. Shield, Ki Barrier, Energy Dan and techniques like that are far too weak, structurally, to put up with the strain and power of the CGD. The stand alone Genki Dama may be blocked by the regular methods.
It gets big, then it gets REALLY big, then it grows steadily after that. You'll note that the REALLY big surge, when you do your second charge, arrives on your SEVENTH OA, which means you can't do it in one turn. You cannot use Multi Arms or Shi Shin no Ken or any other OA increasing technique to make the spirit bomb go quicker. Only original, rolled for OAs can be used for this purpose. But, maybe you could use Multi Arms to help protect you while you do it. Or if you Shi Shin no Ken, the other clone(s) of you can guard you while you do it.
